Na początku listopada ubiegłego roku zaczęły docierać do mnie pytania od kolegów z Działu Akademickiego (i jednego studenta) o dostępność najnowszego, piątego wydania znakomitego podręcznika wydanego przez Oxford University Press pt. The Institutions of the European Union. Do tej pory nasi czytelnicy korzystali z wydania czwartego i bardzo mnie ucieszył fakt, że nasi asystenci (i jeden student) zachowują czujność klasową, więc grzecznie odpisałem, że wydanie piąte pojawi się na rynku księgarskim pod koniec roku, książkę dopisałem do listy tytułów do zamówienia i po spełnieniu wszystkich wewnętrznych procedur związanych z koniecznością rozpoznania rynku w celu wyłonienia potencjalnego dostawcy oferującego najlepsze warunki realizacji zamówienia, w połowie stycznia książka została zamówiona.
Dzisiaj książka trafiła na półkę, a do wypożyczenia dostępnych jest 6 egzemplarzy. Zawartość podręcznika została gruntownie zrewidowana: zawiera szereg nowych rozdziałów i obejmuje omówienie najważniejszych wydarzeń mających wpływ na instytucje Unii Europejskiej w obliczu zmieniającej się dynamiki integracji europejskiej. W poszczególnych rozdziałach omówiono obecne wyzwania przed którymi stoi UE, takie jak wzrost populizmu i sposób, w jaki politycy wykorzystują go do atakowania instytucji UE, kryzys klimatyczny i odważne, nowe zobowiązania polityczne UE do uczynienia Unii neutralną dla klimatu do 2050 r., a także odpowiedź na pandemię Covid-19.
